Riversimple to launch all-inclusive hydrogen car subscription

Riversimple is preparing to roll out a subscription service for its hydrogen fuel cell cars, offering customers an all-in, fixed-cost alternative to vehicle ownership.
The monthly fee will include comprehensive insurance, servicing, MOTs, breakdown cover, tax, fuel, and wear-and-tear – with a separate mileage-based rate on top. Drivers will be able to refuel at any hydrogen station in the UK, with Riversimple footing the bill.
The company says the model incentivises it to make its cars as efficient as possible, given it’s paying for the fuel. Its current two-seat prototype, the Rasa, has a claimed 300-mile range and can be refuelled in 3-5 minutes. A 500-mile version is planned.
While aimed initially at private drivers, the firm also sees potential for fleets that can’t accommodate BEV charging downtime.
Riversimple says its lightweight hydrogen powertrain can be scaled to different vehicle types, prioritising load space over payload for some use cases, and tailoring performance to local duty cycles.
The subscription model will also be offered to commercial customers as a turnkey package covering maintenance, tyres, insurance, and fuel.
Riversimple has partnered with Element2, which is targeting a UK-wide hydrogen refuelling network within five years.
A hydrogen demand calculator for fleet operators is already live on the company’s website, and a waiting list is open for individuals who want to join the scheme.
