HysetCo has opened a major new hydrogen station at Paris-Orly Airport, expanding its refuelling capacity sixfold and replacing the original site that kickstarted hydrogen mobility in the French capital back in 2017.

The revamped station can now deliver up to 1 tonne of hydrogen per day – enough to refuel more than 500 vehicles – and forms part of a wider public-private push to scale zero-emission transport across the Île-de-France region.

Hydrogen at the terminal gates

Strategically located near one of France’s busiest airport access routes, the new Orly station is designed for high-throughput applications such as taxis and fleet vehicles.

Airport traffic alone accounts for up to 30% of local transport emissions, according to Groupe ADP, making the site a key node for decarbonisation.

It also replaces a historic site: the original hydrogen station at Orly was the first in the Paris region, installed back in 2017 during hydrogen mobility’s earliest pilot phase.

That early facility is now retired – its replacement, backed by the EU and regional government, is designed to meet real-world demand.

Laurence Faure, Director of Paris-Orly Airport at Groupe ADP, said the project reinforces “a shared commitment to decarbonised mobility – for the benefit of airport users and local residents alike.”

HysetCo eyes fleet growth

The new station is HysetCo’s eighth in the Paris region, and part of its plan to scale hydrogen mobility infrastructure in line with vehicle deployment.

The company operates what it says is the world’s largest hydrogen vehicle fleet, with 800 cars and vans on the road, and aims to grow that figure fivefold over the next five years – particularly in the light commercial segment.

“Multiplying our hydrogen distribution capacity at Orly by six is a major milestone,” said Loïc Voisin, President of HysetCo. “We want to offer a zero-emission mobility solution that is comprehensive, consistent, and accessible to all.”

Funded by France, the EU and Île-de-France Region

The station is backed by the European Union’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), the French government, and the Île-de-France Region.

It’s the 14th hydrogen station to receive regional funding, part of a broader €100m+ programme to support clean mobility, public transport electrification and sustainable fuels.

Richard Ferrer of the EU’s CINEA agency said the project proves that “tangible progress is possible,” even amid challenges in the sector.

Île-de-France President Valérie Pécresse called the station a “new milestone” in building a territory-wide hydrogen network – highlighting hydrogen’s long-term role in sustainable aviation fuels as well as ground mobility.
