Ryze to supply green hydrogen to Ricardo for vehicle testing

Britain’s hydrogen ambitions just got a handy boost, with Ryze Power landing a deal to supply Ricardo’s Shoreham testing centre with sustainable, eco-friendly, good for the planet green hydrogen.
Ricardo – the Sussex-based engineering boffins who’ve quietly spent more than a century making vehicles quicker, cleaner, and generally better – recently doubled down on hydrogen by investing £2.5 million in test equipment.
Now, thanks to Ryze, that shiny new gear will have something to run on.
Ryze knows its way around hydrogen, already providing zero-carbon fuel to some of the tougher corners of transport – aviation, agriculture, construction – and comes from strong family stock, with links to JCB and hydrogen bus pioneers Wrightbus.
Tim Bassett, Ricardo’s Head of Test, neatly summed things up, describing hydrogen as “a versatile energy carrier that offers huge potential to drive the transition to sustainable, clean propulsion in several sectors.” In engineering-speak, that’s about as excitable as it gets.
Ryze’s Alex Webster was similarly measured, saying simply they aim “to prove the case for hydrogen” in transport – which, reading between the lines, means Shoreham’s test rigs today, your local buses and short-haul flights tomorrow.
Ricardo calls the Shoreham centre a global “centre of excellence” for hydrogen and electrified propulsion engineering – and now, with Ryze’s reliable supply secured, the facility’s nicely set up to actually deliver on those claims.
The UK’s hydrogen rollout still feels more marathon than sprint, but deals like this are exactly what’s needed if Britain’s serious about picking up the pace.
