Nikola Corporation has achieved remarkable success in Q2 2024, with deliveries of its hydrogen-fuel cell trucks surging 80% from the previous quarter.

The company delivered 72 Class 8 hydrogen fuel cell trucks, exceeding its sales guidance of 60 units, and signalling robust demand for these zero-emissions big rigs.

Nikola CEO Stephen Girsky said: “We have maintained our 2024 momentum with solid wholesale numbers, new customers such as Walmart Canada, and repeat customers like 4GEN and IMC, purchasing vehicles through our dealer network.”

“We are firmly on the field and are continuing to secure our first-mover advantage in zero-emissions Class 8 trucks in North America, as well as with our HYLA hydrogen refuelling solutions.”

Nikola Motors’ progress marks a significant transition away from battery-powered vehicles, following a challenging 2023.

The company had to recall all its battery-powered trucks due to fires caused by a coolant leak – however, their shift to hydrogen technology is proving successful.

With 112 hydrogen trucks delivered in the first half of 2024, Nikola is targeting full-year deliveries of 300 to 350 units.

New customer acquisitions, including retail giant Walmart Canada, which recently received a hydrogen-powered semi-truck, highlight the growing market acceptance.

Additionally, AiLO Logistics has placed an order for 100 hydrogen trucks, further bolstering Nikola’s sales.

To support its hydrogen fleet, Nikola is also expanding its network of refuelling stations.

Despite facing challenges such as high interest rates and fluctuating consumer demand, the company is making strides in establishing a strong foothold in the zero-emissions trucking sector.
