In the leafy Bavarian town of Dettelbach – where the autobahn hums, the beer flows, and the hydrogen future is being quietly built – Wolftank Group has just inked a major deal to supply refuelling infrastructure for one of Germany’s most ambitious H2 projects.

The Austrian-based tech specialists will deliver a full suite of hydrogen refuelling systems for Guttroff GmbH. The firm are behind a new green hydrogen production and distribution site on the edge of Würzburg.

The station, which is set to go public in the coming months, forms part of the H2 Main-Tauber Hub. The project is designed to create a complete hydrogen value chain, from production to the pump.

And this is no low-volume science fair project. We’re talking up to 1,000kg of green hydrogen per day, pumped out through dual dispensers offering 350 and 700-bar fills.

That’s enough to feed fuel cell cars, buses, and heavy-duty trucks without breaking a sweat.

“With our refuelling and trailer solution, we’ll enable the direct use of green hydrogen in transport,” said Wolftank CEO Simon Reckla, describing Germany as one of the most dynamic hydrogen markets in Europe.

“Together with Guttroff, we are taking an important step towards expanding the necessary infrastructure.”

Public station + trailer logistics

It’s a two-pronged strategy. A publicly accessible filling station will serve light-duty vehicles, while a four-point trailer station will cover logistics and regional distribution.

That combo gives southern Germany a serious shot of hydrogen flexibility and lays the groundwork for more hubs to come.

The contract value hasn’t been disclosed, but what we do know is this: Wolftank and Guttroff have also agreed to a wider strategic co-operation, giving the Innsbruck-based engineering group a stronger foothold in Germany’s growing H2 scene.

For those not familiar, Wolftank Group is a bit of a Swiss army knife for clean energy and environmental tech. They build turnkey hydrogen and LNG refuelling stations, handle environmental remediation, and work across more than 20 countries.

This latest project underscores what we’re seeing across Europe right now: the shift from press releases to pipework, the jump from planning to pouring.

Dettelbach might not be the first place you think of when it comes to zero-emission logistics, but give it a year, and it might just be leading the charge.
