Ferrari goes green: Bloom Energy hydrogen fuel cell plant to power Maranello factory

Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna shakes hands with Bloom Energy at Ferrari hydrogen Maranello Plant July 2024

Ferrari are accelerating their journey towards carbon neutrality with the installation of a new one mega-watt solid oxide hydrogen fuel cell plant at its Maranello facilities, built by Bloom Energy.

This innovative plant now provides 5% of the energy required for Ferrari’s production activities, significantly cutting fuel consumption and emissions.

The new fuel cell plant represents a major step forward in Ferrari’s commitment to becoming carbon neutral by 2030.

Compared to traditional CHP (Combined Heat and Power) cogeneration systems, this plant reduces gas requirements by approximately 20%, offering substantial energy savings.

Additionally, it boasts flexibility in energy sources, including hydrogen, natural gas, biomethane, or a combination, converting fuel into electricity without combustion.

One of the most impressive benefits is the reduction of over 99% of pollution that contributes to smog and particulate matter, making this plant not only efficient but also environmentally friendly.

Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna said: “Ferrari are working harder than ever to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030, through the adoption of leading edge technologies and of a scientific approach that is written in our DNA.

“We are thrilled to partner with Bloom Energy, as both our Companies are highly committed to a decarbonization path, and proud to host its first European installation.”
